As the founder and CEO of Medweb, Peter (Pete) Killcommons directs the firm’s radiology, telemedicine, and disaster response divisions. On top of these responsibilities, Peter Killcommons engages in various philanthropic efforts, including support for the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross recently issued a press release reviewing the progress of its Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, which works to decrease the number of injuries and deaths related to home fires nationwide by 25 percent over the next five years. After starting the campaign in October 2014, the Red Cross partnered with community groups and fire departments around the country to install thousands of smoke detection devices in numerous neighborhoods. The campaign also works to spread awareness of home fire safety protocols, and community volunteers engage in education efforts in neighborhoods with high fire risk.

According to the press release, the American Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign made significant strides in home fire safety over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Red Cross volunteers and local organizations were able to educate homeowners and install smoke alarms in Florida, North Carolina, Connecticut, New Jersey, and California. Just in Orange County, California, the campaign installed more than 120 smoke alarms and increased home fire safety awareness in more than 630 homes.
