Peter Killcommons at ARMTELEMED

The Chief Executive Officer of Medweb, Peter Killcommons has spent much of his career involved with the emerging field of telemedicine. A member of the American Telemedicine Association, he discussed the value of telemedicine in rural villages and underserved areas at the Fourth Intensive Balkan Telemedicine and eHealth Seminar in November of 2010. In October of 2011, Peter Killcommons appeared as a keynote speaker at the First Armenian International Congress on Telemedicine and eHealth, also called ARMTELEMED: Road to the Future.

Nearly 300 people representing more than 20 countries participated in the conference, which was sponsored by Polycom, Inc.; Byblos Bank Armenia CJSC; AMD Global Telemedicine, Inc.; and Medweb, among other entities. Topics included distance learning, telematics, ethical issues in telemedicine, and remote patient monitoring.

At this event, Killcommons explained his achievement in partnering with Nangarhar University Teaching Hospital and Nangarhar Hospital to create a telemedicine system in Eastern Afghanistan. While at ARMTELEMED: Road to the Future, he contributed a Medweb Internet-based system to the Armenian Association of Telemedicine so that citizens of Armenia could receive better quality medical care. During his time in the country, Peter Killcommons enjoyed meeting with his peers from around the world and visiting local villages.
