A Brief History of the Fisher House Foundation

A member of the American Telemedicine Association board of directors, Dr. Peter (Pete) Killcommons is CEO of Medweb, a leader in providing medical technology solutions. Dr. Peter Killcommons also supports charitable organizations and nonprofits, including the Fisher House Foundation.

The Fisher House Foundation furnishes complimentary housing for military personnel and families while a loved one is undergoing medical treatment. In 1991, the first two Fisher Houses opened in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., followed by six additional houses in 1992.
The Fisher House Foundation expanded its offerings to include free air travel for service members and their families in 2004 through a partnership with "Operation Hero Miles." In 2008, the organization announced its official online grassroots fundraising platform, Team Fisher House. It added complimentary hotel rooms to its services as part of its Hotels for Heroes program in 2012. Since its founding, Fisher House Foundation has assisted more than 335,000 military families.
