Laughs for Troops Holds Funniest Night in America in Los Angeles

Peter Killcommons

For the past 25 years, Dr. Peter Killcommons has served as chief executive officer of the medical software and device company Medweb in San Francisco, California. A philanthropic individual, Dr. Peter (Pete) Killcommons supports several charitable organizations, including Laughs for the Troops.

Founded in 2011 by Thomas Brown, Laughs for the Troops helps military personnel transition from the military to civilian life. Brown sought to honor his father, who suffered from trauma related to his service in World War II. The nonprofit organization uses laughter to help veterans deal with post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), common ailments for military personnel returned from war.
One of the ways the organization spreads laughter is through the Funniest Night in America, a free, family-friendly comedy event that uses laughter to help mitigate the effects of PTSD and TBI. On May 20, 2017, the organization hosted one of its comedy events at the Wadsworth Theater in Los Angeles. Comedians at the event included Tommy Drake, Happy Cole, and Phil Palisoul. Thomas Brown made an appearance, and Consuela Ivy served as a special guest performer. Of the theater’s 1,300-plus seats, 600 were donated to veterans and their families.
