Peter Killcommons, MD, on the Benefits of LED Lighting vs. Incandescent

Replacing incandescent lighting with LED technology provides several important advantages, which include the following:
LED bulbs require far less electricity to power them, using approximately 65 kilowatt hours per year rather than the 525 kilowatt hours an incandescent bulb devours annually.
Lower temperature
Because LED bulbs waste very little of their energy through heat, unlike incandescents, they remain relatively cool.
LED bulbs last significantly longer than regular incandescents, usually in a range of 30,000 to 50,000 hours as opposed to the incandescent's life of 750 to 2,000 hours. This translates to a decade or two passing before the LED will require replacement.
All of the benefits of LED lighting combine to create a product that uses natural resources more responsibly.
